Firm rolls out 10000 wireless computer mice

Local IT products distributor Lenotech Corp. said having the modern computer accessory in its portfolio would surely “revolutionize” the way people use the mouse as he expects customers to embrace the product due to its lower price and functionality.

The China-manufactured V-Track sells for only P700-P850 while other brands like Microsoft's BlueTrack normally fetch around thousands of pesos.

“I think this is the way to go. Soon, all the ordinary optical mouse will be replaced by the V-Track,” Lenotech Corp. managing director Elvin Cokai told reporters.

At least 30 million Filipinos now have access to the Internet, with younger demographics dominating the online population, according to a report released last week by global insights and measurement company, Nielsen.

In the Philippines, Internet penetration among consumers aged 15 to 19 was close to two-thirds (65 percent) and nearly half of those in their 20s were online (48 percent).

Taking these figures as cue, Cokai believed that there is still a market for mice in general even with the growing popularity of tablets and other touch-point gadgets.

“There is still market for mice because these are perfect for office and home use. Tablets are only good for surfing and gaming,” he said.

From research, design, and surface adaptability tests, it took A4Tech around two to three years to develop the V-Track, A4Tech product manager John Lin told Sun.Star.

Instead of traditional slanted light, Lin said the V-Track technology uses vertical reinforced light which goes deep into the structures of surfaces.

In regular optical mice, A4Tech observed that the sensor is unable to track the motion precisely and leads the cursor to jump or have lag problems.

As a result, the traditional mice have to rely on a good quality mouse pad to negate such discrepancies.

V-Track also uses a small lens aperture of just five square millimetres which bars the entry of dust into the lens and increases precision of the cursor control.

The vertical reinforced light of V-Track uses a shorter light path and consumes 20 to 30 percent less power compared to the slanted incident light of the regular optical mouse, A4Tech said.
