As Power Outages Continue, Cypress Offers Discount for Lisle Residents

Passholders to Lisle's Sea Lion Aquatic Park will be allowed to enter Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park  free of charge Wednesday due to an agreement between the Woodridge and Lisle Park Districts.

Lisle residents will also be admitted to the park at a discounted rate.

Lisle's aquatic park is still without power following Monday morning's severe storms and is closed to the public.

The agreement allows Lisle patrons to use an open, nearby facility until their power comes back on.

Mike Adams, executive director of the Woodridge Park District , said the Woodridge Park District would be reimbursed by Lisle's park district for the discounted rate.

Adams said Woodridge was entering into a similar agreement with the Bolingbrook Park District when Bolingbrook's power came back on.

"We allow it because in the reciprocal situation we would want to send patrons to a neighboring facility," Adams said in Tuesday's board meeting.

He said he hoped that before next year, area park districts could draft an agreement that would allow patrons from one park to use another in case of power outages or other situations that would prevent parks from opening.

"It's something I've wanted to do for awhile," Adams said in the meeting. "That way, we could just make a call."

Lisle Park District Awards Seniors Robert Kuzmicki Education ...

Lisle, IL – On Thursday, July 21, at the regular monthly board meeting of the Lisle Park District Board of Park Commissioners, two Lisle Seniors were awarded the Robert Kuzmicki Education Scholarship. The scholarship was created in memory of Bob Kuzmicki, who lost his battle with a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in December of 2005. Bob, a devoted father and husband was also the Lisle Park District’s facility specialist and was well known by many patrons at Sea Lion Aquatic Park for his dedication to the facility. The Lisle Park District received many qualified applications for the two $500 scholarships. Applicants were asked to explain the importance of community involvement and how it applies to their lives, the benefits of the park district, and how their work ethic will affect their future goals. The two students chosen by the scholarship committee have astonishing work ethics, are incredibly selfless, and truly understand the role a park district plays within the community.

The first of two scholarships was awarded to Tijana Popovic. Tijana graduated from Lisle Senior High School this year with a grade point average of 5.25. She has been accepted and plans to attend the University of Illinois where she hopes to pursue a degree in pre-med psychology. Tijana’s academic and extra-curricular accomplishments truly exemplify an outstanding work ethic. She served as president of the National Honors Society, was a member of Varsity Choir, Key Club, Student Congress, Student Ambassador, Yellow Ribbon Committee, Math team, and participated in many musicals and plays. Within the Lisle Park District community, Tijana has worked as a lifeguard and swim lesson instructor at Sea Lion Aquatic Park, volunteered at the Partners for Parks Scarecrow Scramble and the Fourth of July parade. Tijana’s goal is to one day become a doctor, specializing in either Endocrinology or Pediatrics in order to help diagnose and treat patients. No doubt, with her strong work ethic Tijana will achieve her goal and go on to help many others.

Timothy J. Saul Jr. was awarded the second Robert Kuzmicki Education Scholarship. Tim, graduated from Lisle Senior High School this spring. He will study Criminal Justice at the College of Dupage and plans to transfer to Western Illinois University. Tim’s math teacher and varsity football coach, Ronald Jaegle, says “Tim has a great work ethic on the football field; he is a kind individual; he’s always there to offer assistance to a peer struggling in the classroom or to help a teammate through a challenging drill.” In school, Tim has participated in both football and basketball. He was also honored by Governor Pat Quinn for volunteering in the “Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here” tobacco enforcement program. Within the Lisle Park District community, Tim has volunteered for the past two years as a head coach for the travel basketball program, been the scorekeeper for the in-house basketball league, umpired practice games for Lisle baseball and worked at the concessions at Sea Lion Aquatic Park. Tim’s active involvement in the Lisle community has led him toward the field of law enforcement. He wishes to keep citizens and their property safe. Tim says that nothing will stop him from perusing his dreams of becoming a police officer. His desire to help and encourage others and Tim’s caring concern for the community will continue to define him as a leader for years to come.
