Apple's Steve Jobs wants to build world's best office in Cupertino

As you know, Apple has grown like a weed, and we have always been here in Cupertino. Each of our buildings here hold 2,000-odd employees. But we have got almost 12,000 people in the area.

We are renting buildings--and not very good buildings-at ever greater radius from our campus. It is clear that we are just out of space and need to build a new campus. We will still need to keep our existing offices, we just need another one to augment them.

We've got a plan that lets us stay in Cupertino. We have bought some land, which is kind of special to me. When I was 13, I called up Hewlett Packard. I called up Bill Hewlett, my idol, who lived in Palo Alto. There were no unlisted numbers in the phonebook then, which should give you a clue to my age!

He picked up the phone and I asked him if he would give me some spare parts for building a frequency counter. He not only did, but in addition gave me something way more important-he gave me a job that summer.

A summer job at HP right here in Santa Clara. I was in heaven. Right around that time Hewlett and Packard bought some property over here in Cupertino and built their computer systems division. As Hewlett and Packard is shrinking lately, they decided to sell that property and we bought it.

We also bought some adjacent property that used to be apricot orchards. We would like to put a new campus so that we can stay in Cupertino.

We've hired some of the best architects in the world. We've come up with a design that puts 12,000 people in one building. That may sound rather odd- 12,000 people in one building. But we have seen office parks with lots of buildings that get pretty boring very fast. So, we'd like to do something better than that.

The campus we'd like to build is pretty amazing. It's a little like a spaceship. It's got agorgeous courtyard in the middle- and a lot more. It's a circle, so it's curved all the way round. This is not the cheapest way to build something.

There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved and we have used our experience in making retail buildings all over the world. We know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use and we want to make the glass specifically for this building. We can make it curved all the way around the building. It's pretty cool.

Right now (with the existing structure) about 20% of the space is landscaping.

Tip One: Computer hardware components should be compatible with one another. This will prevent computer slowdowns, malfunctions, freezes or even total computer breakdown. This means they should properly work together so as to optimize the processes done by your operating system, firmware and installed applications when you use them.

Tip Two: The latest firmware and device driver software updates of each spare component should be downloaded prior to assembling an extra computer using spare hardware devices. This will help optimize the functions of each hardware item. A hardware device driver application helps the operating system communicate with the firmware of the device. This means an updated operating system needs updated device drivers and firmware versions so it can efficiently send and receive data to and from the attached hardware components.

Tip Three: Your preferred operating system should be compatible with the latest versions of the firmware and device driver software of each connected hardware device. Depending on the model of your HP spares: Some operating system versions have stopped supporting old, outdated hardware devices. This is why you need to determine if your hardware device is supported by the latest version of your preferred operating system.

Tip Four: A newly assembled computer can be properly optimized by making sure the latest security and system updates of the operating system is properly installed. You can get these from the website of your operating system’s developer. Most operating systems are configured by default to constantly check for updates. In these cases: Your OS will prompt you to download the latest updates for your operating system in case it detects a set of updates yet to be downloaded and installed in your system.

Tip Five: Configure the settings of your operating system properly to make sure all HP spares running inside your newly assembled computer are working properly. This ensures an optimized solution for a faster, more reliable computing and Internet browsing experience with your computer.
