Quincy 310 Air Compressor

Quincy Head Unloader - Practical Machinist - Largest Manufacturing ...

Received a nice 310-25 that was in a underground garage, was working when disconnected. Got back to the shop and run it and all is well. Only issue is that upon running there is an audible air puff or farting from the head unloader that is closest to the flywheel. There is a 5/16" hex plug on the opposite side head unloader and on this side it is missing. I can plug it with my finger to quell the noise and no pressure builds up here. Is this normal and should there be a hex plug in the threaded hole. The threads are clean and have no factory paint on the inside of them, I kind of thought the hex may have backed out and fell to the floor from running in the prior location. I did not see it when I was taking it out of the basement. Beautiful compressor, oil gauge runs at 20-22 ppsi and there are no knocks or rattles, just need to know if the hole should be plugged so there is no risk of contamination or if it should be left alone for pressure relief. Thanks for any response Mine looks similiar, but there are no holes in either intake unloader where the hole is in your picture. I have a 350 quincy from the 70's that I'm fixing up. It has a port on the high pressure intake unloader in the same place as your picture shows, but I don't know what connected there. It does have a compression fitting for 1/4" copper line, just no copper line. Got to talk to the Tech. Guru at Quincy, Very knowledgeable and to the point, he said, "that was the high pressure side and that the short puffs coming from that head unloader was a relief from the staging, perfectly normal and it left the factory unplugged. Thus, everything is well and we will proceed to install in the shop. Here is a picture of the whole unit. Thanks to all who responded. Thanks and I will do that as well drain the tank and see if we got any water. My next attempt will be to wire this thing up. It has a magnetic starter and also a dry power transformer. I got the items with it but they were taken off the wall by another electrician. I will need to have some sort of guidance here as how to wire up the ON/OFF, the transformer and then the pressure switch. It is all there but was all disconnected. I will be asking in the future and posting pictures as to why and to what advantage the power transformer is for. Thanks for your comments. are really built well. I have two Campbell Hausfelds and there is not a lot of comparison. I was told once that these were the Rolls Royces of air compressors.
