Parmelly powers Abilene Wylie past Cedar Creek for district Little League title

You could tell Kade Parmelly really didn't want to take first base after his uniform was grazed with a pitch in the fifth inning. After all, Parmelly was having a whale of a night with the bat.

Parmelly was 3-for-3 with five RBIs, including a two-run home run, before being hit by the pitch in the fifth inning as Wylie won the Texas District 5 Little League title with a 10-6 victory over Abilene Cedar Creek on Tuesday at the Wylie Little League complex.

Wylie coach Kevin Hanna could understand Parmelly's reluctance to take first on the gift in the fifth inning — an at-bat that would be his last in the game.

"I've coached Kade for years now," Hanna said. "Whatever it takes, he wants to be in there swinging the bat. Being hit by a pitch in that spot, he wanted to stay (at the plate). He didn't want to take a hit by pitch."

Parmelly ended up being forced out on an inning-ending double play in the inning, but he and his Wylie teammates had already done enough damage, jumping out to a 10-1 advantage after three innings. Much of it thanks to Parmelly's big night at the plate.

"Big Kade is an animal," Hanna said. "He's such a tough out. It's very hard to get a fastball by him, and he adjusts very well to the curveball. He's going to miss a few here or there, but my money's on him."

Wylie starter Hutton Frazier scattered six hits over 4 2-3 innings for the victory. He allowed four runs — three on Ryan King's three-run blast in the fifth inning. Cedar Creek, which went 3-2 in the tournament, got two more runs in the sixth off reliever Blake Johnston before losing to Wylie for the second time in the tournament.

"They're a good ballclub," Cedar Creek coach Larry King said. "We started hitting the ball a little too late tonight."

Wylie jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Frazier, Cameron Hanna, Johnston, Parmelly and Sam King all singled to start the game. Johnston and Parmelly's hits both drove in runs.

Cedar Creek cut the deficit in half on Brooks Pepper's two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Santibanez, who had singled before Peyton Killam was hit by a pitch, scored on the hit.

But Wylie added four more runs in both the second and third innings for a 10-1 lead. Jon Mike Hernandez led off the second with a double, and after Frazier reached on an error, scored on a wild pitch. Hanna singled, and Johnston chased Frazier home with a ground out to second. Parmelly then delivered a two-run homer to dead center field — a shot that appeared to really demoralize Cedar Creek while providing a big boost to Wylie.
