Police warn community over thefts during Ramadan

Police are urging Muslim communities to take extra care in securing their property against thieves as they look forward to celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.

Experience from previous years shows there can be an increase in burglaries during religious periods such as Ramadan with thieves targeting Muslim households that they believe could contain gold jewellery and other valuables.

Ramadan begins this year on the 1 August 2011 but there have been three burglaries involving theft or attempted theft of Asian jewellery in the Bury area during July.

Three incidents took place on the afternoon of 11 July 2011 where offenders broke in and took valuables or attempted to steal property from houses in Whitefield and Bury, Greater Manchester.

Police are advising that people take photos of their valuables, particularly gold items to ensure they can be identified if stolen and recovered.

People are reminded to take extra care of their jewellery and to store it securely in safety deposit boxes in banks and building societies.

If jewellery has to be left in the house then residents should ensure that it is kept out of sight and securely locked up in a safe that is bolted into the brickwork or masonry.

Thieves also target cars while they are parked around Mosques during prayer time, as they are aware that worshippers will not return to them before prayers have ended.

Officers have been visiting religious venues and families in hotspot areas to offer crime prevention advice and extra patrols will be in place throughout the holy month to deter thieves.

People can do their bit to be security conscious during this time by locking their vehicles and removing all valuables when they visit their Mosque, while using deadlocks on all external doors and windows and burglar alarms at home to help deter burglars.

Bury Division’s Chief Inspector Sean Hogan said: “We have been working closely with Muslim communities to ensure they can continue with their religious celebrations without the fear of becoming victims of crime.

“Residents should ensure that all external doors and windows are locked, even when they’re in the house. Also, if the property has a burglar alarm make sure that it is switched on when the house is empty or overnight.

“Leave lights or a radio on when you are out of the house to give the impression that there is somebody in and take close-up photographs of all your jewellery so that items can be easily identified".

A Few Suggestions for Choosing a Quality Home Security System

When it comes to protecting your loved ones, only the best home security systems will be good enough. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, there are a great number of possibilities out there. We would like to provide people some tips to help make locating a good system at a budget friendly price a whole lot simpler.

Before you begin searching for a good alarm system you must figure out what type of components you will need and how many of each of them will be required to effectively take care of your loved ones. You need to start out by counting all of the entry points you intend to cover. That means every single door and each window. The components that ordinarily come with most home security systems include sensors for doors and windows, motion detectors and glass break sensors.

Door and window sensors work by having two contact points that complete a circuit. Every time a door or window is opened, the circuit will be broken which sets off an alarm. When you have many windows and doors that have to be covered you may need a lot of sensors and the more components you purchase the more expensive it will be. One way to reduce the number of components you will need in an area that has a great deal of entry points would be to use a motion detector to protect a large area in lieu of using numerous door and window sensors. Investing in glass break sensors would also be a good idea since the window sensors described above only work if the contact points come apart which occurs when the window is actually opened. If the window is shattered but the window frame remains undamaged the alarm would not trigger. A glass break sensor however has the capacity to detect the sound frequency caused by a window being shattered and this frequency would then set off the alarm.

With a multitude of components available it can be tough to make a choice with regards to the ones that are best. It is simply not realistic to buy a variety of components and try all of them for yourself to find out if they meet your needs but the next best thing is to use the internet and research home security equipment reviews . You’ll be able to see what people like or dislike about all sorts of different pieces of home security equipment. This is very useful information because you’ll be able to learn about the experiences that other people had with any kind of equipment you are thinking about purchasing.

Another thing you might want to consider is possibly registering with a monitoring company. Home security monitoring companies can certainly help take care of your loved ones your home and your valuables when you are away and they can help keep your loved ones safe in the event that someone tries to break in when you’re at home. In the event that someone tries to enter your home when your alarm is armed your monitoring service will attempt to make contact with you right away. If they are unable to get in touch with you or if you do not give them the right pass word they will contact the proper authorities and the police will be at your home within minutes.
